A Beacon of Higher Education in the Kosi Region since 1986.
Lahtan Choudhary College (LC College) is a premier constituent institution located in Pasthwar (Baluaha), Mahishi, in the Saharsa district of Bihar. Beautifully situated on the eastern embankment of the mighty Kosi river, the college lies in the heart of the flood-affected region, just a few kilometers away from the revered Ugratara Peeth, Mahishi.
Affiliated with B.N. Mandal University (BNMU), Madhepura and permanently recognized by the Government of Bihar, the college offers comprehensive 4-Year undergraduate courses (CBCS pattern) in Arts, Science, Commerce, and BCA.
Established in 1986, the college was founded by the visionary Sri Nageshwar Bhagat. It was proudly named in honor of Late Lahtan Choudhary, a great freedom fighter and former Minister of the Bihar Government, to immortalize his dedication to public welfare.
Before the establishment of this college, there was no degree-level institution within a 25 to 30-kilometer radius. Students seeking higher education were forced to travel long distances to SNSRKS College in Saharsa (25 km), Koshi College in Biraul (32 km), BSS College in Supaul (45 km), or Koshi College in Khagaria (50 km). Recognizing this immense geographical and educational hurdle, LC College was established to bring higher education to the doorsteps of the local population.
Mahishi is a block headquarters with a population exceeding 10 lakhs, predominantly comprising marginalized communities, backward classes, and minorities who are economically and educationally deprived.
By providing accessible and quality education, the college specifically focuses on uplifting the poor, backward classes, and especially female students of this remote Kosi region, who were historically deprived of graduation-level studies. Today, under the presidency of Smt. Manjula Devi, the college continues to fulfill this noble cause.
